SINGLE TRADITIONAL SAILOR'S VALENTINE - Octagonal case.  Shells and/or sea life.  Maximum 14 in. by 14 in. Design to be created in the traditional Mosaic or Victorian style incorporating a majority of the shell types used, and other elements that were utilized in each style of older valentines.  (See #30 under Artistic rules for reference books).  Tabletop only.

DOUBLE TRADITIONAL SAILOR'S VALENTINE - Pair of hinged octagonal cases.  Shells and/or sea life.  Sentimental message.  Maximum 14 in. by 28 in.  Design to be created in the traditional Mosaic style incorporating cotton batting, majority of Barbadian shell types used, and other elements that were used in older valentines.  (See #30 under Artistic rules for reference books).  Tabletop only.

In addition to John Fondas' book, Sailors' Valentines, we added another reference book for your research.  Sailors' Valentines Their Journey Through Time, by Grace L. Madeira, Constance Marshall Miller, Mary S. Page and Ann T. SchuttEach offer a wealth of information on the techniques, and materials used in the creation of a valentine back in the day.


BE ADVISED:
“Sailors Valentines Their Journey Through Time” is currently in print but, “Sailors Valentines by John Fondas”, in no longer in print and will not be reprinted per. Rizzoli International of  N.Y.
