Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum Lecture Series: Shell Crafting with Martha Stewart Living''s Hannah Milman Publication Date: February 24, 2014 Related Website: http://bit.ly/HannahMilman

Hannah Milman, Executive Editorial Director of Crafts for Martha Stewart Living, will be joining The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum on Wednesday, March 5 at 2 p.m. for a lecture on shell crafting. The program is free with Museum admission/membership or $5. Please call the museum at (239) 395-2233 or email info@shellmuseum.org to reserve your seat. You can also reserve your spot online: http://bit.ly/HannahMilman

Hannah is a long-time friend of the Shell Museum, and she has written articles about the Museum for "Martha's Craft Blog." She is a friend of and past volunteer for the Sanibel Shell Fair & Show, which she has also written about for "Martha's Craft Blog."

As the founding craft editor at Martha Stewart Living, Hannah Milman continues to develop stories for the magazine while also helping to launch many of the merchandising efforts at MSLO including Martha Stewart Crafts – on which she leads the MSLO design team of crafting experts – and Martha Stewart Holiday.

Hannah has set the standard for MSLO’s crafts stories, often reviving old crafts such as marbleizing, gold leafing and candle-making with new techniques. Many projects are featured on the Web site, www.marthastewart.com/create. Hannah and all of the MSLO craft experts offer original ideas and clear how-tos. They also encourage crafters to do things their own way. “I want to inspire people,” she says, “so they can create something personal.”

Much of Hannah’s work is inspired by nature. Acorns, pinecones, eggs, seashells, and cranberries are her paint and canvas. “I’m always treasure hunting wherever I go,” Hannah says. When she turns her artist’s eye to one of these familiar objects, it becomes something else entirely.

Hannah grew up in Rhode Island spending her summers at the beaches in Cape Cod, and now lives on the island of Manhattan with her husband James and their two dogs and cat. She continues to beach comb on Fire Island, NY and the west coast of Florida, on Cayo Costa State Park.
