There has been a change of command in the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club along with changes for the 77th 2014 Annual Shell Show. Entry fees will no longer be required and business card placement costs have been reduced. There is now a new club president as well as the Artistic Division Chair. Pasted below is a letter (e-mail) that has been sent out by the new Artistic Division Chair, Mary Burton in regards’ to those changes. On a personal note I feel the need to say thank you to Jeff Oths and Sandy Moran for all their hard work and voluntary commitment over the years as well as the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club. We all know if it were not for them we would not have the privilege to presenting our works of art on a worldwide stage they have continued to improve know as the Annual Sanibel Shell Show. When you attend the 2014 show and the person who greets you is wearing a show badge do remember that each and every one of them has volunteered their time for “you”, so do yourself and them a favor, just say thank you.
                                                DIVISION CHAIR LETTER

As the curtain closed on the 76th Annual Sanibel Shell Show, everyone's thoughts turned to our 77th show in 2014.

Recently there have been some changes that I want to share with you.  But before I do, I want to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you for your participation and support of the show.  You are our most valuable and treasured asset.  Simply stated, "Without you, there wouldn't be a show".  Over the years I have had the pleasure to watch  many of you blossom as a "Shell Artist".  The beauty and quality of your work has made the Sanibel Shell Show one of the most premier shows in the country. That prestige could never have been achieved, without you.  So, once again, thank-you.

After many years of chairing the Artistic Division of the show,  Sandy Moran has decided to step away from that position.  When approached by the Shell Club Board of Directors asking if I would fill the position, I didn't require time to think about it. I immediately responded with a resounding yes.  For many years I was co-chair of the Artistic Division of the show, and yes, even competed with you.  I am honored to be the new Chair and look forward with great anticipation and excitement to next year.

The Co-Chairs of the show next year are Joyce Matthys and Anne Joffe,  two ladies who have been a presences at the show for many, many years. The new Scientific Chair is
Tom Risher,  an active volunteer devoting many hours a week at The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum.
The dates for the 2014 show are March 6, 7, and 8.  The advertising will note that the Shell Festival hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm and that the Exhibit Hall hours are 9:00am to 4:00pm, closing an hour earlier than previous years. The complete schedule for the week of the show will be available in the application.

The theme chosen for the 2014 Sanibel Shell Show is TREASURES OF SANIBEL.
There will be a special category of competition that will focus on this theme. Please read carefully the criteria required for this category. It will be included in the application form, that will be available online in the fall. Basically, entries in this special theme category must be created with shells, etc. that can be found on Sanibel's beaches. This does not mean they have to be picked up from Sanibel's beaches, just that they could be found there.

At a recent meeting, the Shell Club Board of Directors rescinded the Artistic exhibit fees of $10.00 for each professional exhibit, and $5.00 for each hobbyist exhibit implemented for the 2013 show.  In addition, the business card fee was reduced to the original amount of $50.00 per card placement.

I sincerely look forward to seeing you at next year's show, and feel truly blessed to be your new Artistic Chair.
